Who We Are

Hi, there! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Catherine Bass, LMSW, LSW and I am the founder and owner of Playful Minds Therapeutic Services, PLLC. I am a child therapist who is dedicated to providing compassionate, trauma-informed therapy to children and families, using the language of children (PLAY!).

I specialize in child therapy utilizing the power of play as a primary intervention for social emotional and/or behavioral concerns including anxiety or depression, aggression and anger management, grief and loss, life transitions, low self-esteem, general parenting support, and trauma, abuse or neglect. I believe every child and family has the right, and the ability, to succeed; and I am passionate about working as a partner with the families I serve to help them achieve their goals. Why We Play

Children often do not have the capacity to talk about their feelings or experiences the way adults do. Play therapy is an evidence-based modality that honors each child's unique developmental level, and allows the child to express themselves in developmentally appropriate ways. As the great Gary Landreth says, "Toys are children's words and play is their language."

According to research backed by the Association for Play Therapy, using play as a primary modality can assist with behavioral problems such as anger management, grief and loss, divorce and abandonment, and crisis and trauma; as well as behavioral disorders including anxiety, depression, and more.

Our individual child therapy sessions are tailored to meet the unique needs of your child, using play to meet the child at their own developmental level. We use evidence-based techniques to help your child develop the skills they need to thrive. At Playful Minds Therapeutic Services, we believe that every child has the potential to succeed, and we are committed to helping them reach their goals.

Parenting Support

We understand that parenting can be challenging, even when behaviors are developmentally appropriate. We provide a safe and supportive environment for you to discuss your concerns and receive guidance on how to understand and navigate your child's emotions and behaviors, as well as increase feelings of connection and attachment within the home. Consultation Services

Early childhood education programs have an enormous impact in the process of building the social emotional skills of the youngest children in our community. We partner with centers to build upon the staff's existing capacity to understand and respond to children's mental and behavioral health needs; strengthening staff's ability to respond to children in nurturing, responsive and effective ways.
